The Elphinstone Hiking Group

…is a group of people who love hiking.  We have found that the physical and spiritual benefits of hiking in the forest are magnified when combined with the social and emotional benefits of hiking with other like-minded people.

Our Group offers two hikes each week: Saturday hikes (which are a bit longer and more challenging) and Monday hikes (which are shorter and a little easier).  One feature of all our hikes is that we prefer to explore lesser-known paths through the forest rather than the parks and more popular trails.  We believe this makes for more authentic and awe-inspiring forest experiences.

If you wish to come on one or more of our hikes or become a member of our group, please use the ‘Contact/Comments’ page on this website to let us know.  Each week, we send out an email with the details of the coming hike.

There is no fee for participation in our group. We do it because we enjoy it. Anyone who is healthy and reasonably fit is welcome to come along.

Dogs are welcome as well.  All we ask is that big or boisterous dogs be kept on a leash.

Also, since we are an informal group, we ask all hikers to acknowledge that they are participating in these hikes at their own risk by signing our “Waiver of Liability” (which will be provided by the hike leader at each person’s first hike).

Hiking in the forest, even on a rainy day, is better than being in the city.  It liberates us from the artificial world; it helps us to feel alive, and it reconnects us with the world of our natural selves.
